Brigindu
This is the Gaulish
name of the land goddess of our ancestral lands. She appears across the
Pan-Celtic world in similar names such as Brigantia, Brigit, Brede, Ffaed, and
even in modern day Ireland in the guise of St. Bridget.
The stem briga infers the meaning of something
that is raised up, having an upwelling force, strength, power, and invigorating
essence. (See Apple Branch, pages 148-49).
Not only is she, as a Goddess, linked to the
land, she is also identified with the interests and the welfare of the
community.
Brigindu provides the energy and force
necessary for Lugus to accomplish his work on behalf of the community.
